 Windows XP Virtual Memory
Error
If you are having problems running the entire CD on Windows XP and get an
error message that says "Director Player 6.0 - This program requires at
least 3MB of free virtual memory to run," you need to increase your
computer's virtual memory.
The Sloan Career
Cornerstone Series CD-ROMs do work in Windows XP, but on computers
with large amounts of installed RAM, the virtual memory settings
must be adjusted. Here's what to do:
-
Step
One: To set the virtual memory page file, first Right Click the
My Computer icon.
- Step Two:
Select "Properties" to open the "System Properties" toolbox.
Then, select the "Advanced Tab" and then click the "Performance
Settings" button.
- The
Performance Options window
contains two tabs: Visual Effects and Advanced. Select the
Advanced tab. Go to the Virtual Memory section and click Change
to opens the Virtual Memory window.
- Select Custom
size and set the paging file sizes to 500 MB or lower. Then
click Set.
- You may need
to restart your system.

Please bear in mind that the CDs
originally produced by the Sloan Career Cornerstone Center are likely
out of date in terms of salary and employment data, as they were
produced in the late 1990's. In addition, while there were only 9
fields covered on the CDs, there are over 150 covered on our website,
with all data updated regularly.
