Research Physicist, working on the development of new processes for manufacturing textiles. He does preliminary research, analyzes results, runs experiments and trails, and performs administrative tasks.
Successful cross-disciplinary work -- the cornerstone of more and more careers -- requires people skills, a broad foundation in physics and a commitment to continuous education. Depending on your position, you could very well be viewed as the "expert" in anything to do with physics or even science. Chances are, whatever you are doing, it will not be related to your thesis field. Finally, don't be closed to "alternative" career paths. They can be intellectually satisfying and financially rewarding.
"Unless a student has a guaranteed career path, I believe it is imperative to be as well-rounded as possible, both within and outside of physics."
