Works in the
Safeguards division; develops sampling plans for nuclear
materials inventories. |

When Cary first
started his job, he was surprised by the "industrial"
environment of the facility, where hallways connect buildings
underground and electric carts are used to go from one building
to another. |
 |
"Have an idea of
where you want to go, and what you want to do and certainly make
your minor or your other elective courses, geared towards that." |

Crawford:
"I deal a lot with policy and issues. I have to negotiate with the
Department of Energy. I'm also -- the buildings out here, you have to have
building managers. The production buildings are facilities. They have a
lot of specific criteria for nuclear facilities. I'm in an office
building, but I still am building manager, so I have the little stuff --
the complaints and stuff like that to take care of. I have a lot of
reports to write, negotiations to do with Albuquerque, sampling plans to
set up. So my day varies greatly and it never seems to be the same thing
twice."
Crawford:
"What I would recommend to any math major is, have an idea of where you
want to go, and what you want to do and certainly make your minor or your
other elective courses, geared towards that. For example, I wish I had
taken some physics, possibly more engineering courses, anything that would
tie into math or help me to apply my math better -- I would have much
rather taken those."
