"I looked around at all the engineering sciences, and I chose Material Science because of the combination of all of the other engineering disciplines and all the other sciences as well. You get a little chemistry, you get a little physics, a little mechanics, and dynamics, and then a lot of straight materials classes dealing specifically with polymers, composites, and metals, and I chose to follow through with the metallurgical part of the major, and that led me to where I am today."


Typical Day

6:00 AM - Arrive at work. First walk through of floor operations, make sure all equipment is up & running.
7:00 AM - Fix problems found during first walk through.
8:00 AM - Morning production meeting- 1/2 hour.
9:00 AM - In the office for paperwork, answering calls.
10:00 AM - Check on the validation Lab for progress on current assignments.
11:00 AM - Lunch- Try to get out, usually can't.
12:00 PM - Back to production floor for fixing problems or on the job training with operations.
1:00 PM - Paperwork with phone calls- lots of paperwork.
2:00 PM - Afternoon production meeting for second shift.
3:00 PM - Try to wrap up any small projects, prepare to leave.
4:00 PM - Running or to the gym to workout
5:00 PM - TV, news, read mail, relax.
6:00 PM - Light dinner
Evening - 2 days/wk back to school from 6-9 PM.

Career Experience:

  • 5/94-Present: Delphi Chassis Systems, Processing, tooling and validation of suspension springs.

Internships & Coops:

  • 5/91-12/94: Lab Technician, Delphi Chassis Systems.

Honors and Awards: Member of Alpha Sigma Mu, Order of Omega, Senior Leadership Award.

Best Preparation: "My experiences in the campus environment, and the coop assignment. I feel the best way to prepare for an engineering career is by cooping."

Getting First Job: "I was offered a position where I cooped."
