"I'm a wordsmith. We work with reports from The National Academy of
Sciences, National Research Council, for examples, which's oft times asked
to opine in an expert fashion to Congress on various programs that we have
oversight on. We write committee reports, we write briefing materials for
the members, and attempt to get -- they and their staffs, and their staffs
are quite important -- up to speed about why it is a particular
legislative initiative is being pushed a that particular time."

"But all of that was
from the resource, planned management perspective, so having stood on
mining claims in the west and leases in the Midwest, and dealt with the
folks who are trying to develop the mineral deposits that are hosted in
those mining claims, has prepared me for where I work now in the
legislative arena which deals with the laws that govern the disposition of
those resources."
