
Timothy N. Trick

Dr. Trick received the degree of Bachelor in Electrical Engineering
from the University of Dayton,
and the MS and PhD degrees from
Purdue University. In 1965 he joined the faculty of the
University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign, where his is currently Professor Emeritus of
Electrical and Computer Engineering. From 1998-2004 he was Director
of the Lois and
Harlan Anderson Laboratory for Global Education in Engineering.
In the Spring of 2001 he served as Interim Dean of the College of
Engineering, and from 1995-98 he was Director of the
Sloan Center for Asynchronous
Learning Environments. He served as Head of the Department of
Electrical and Computer Engineering from 1985 to 1995 and as
Director of the Coordinated Science Laboratory from 1984 to 1986.
Professor Trick taught, conducted research and published widely in
the areas of computational methods for integrated circuit analysis
and design, analog and digital signal processing, and computer-based
education. He has published two books, contributed chapters to six
other books, published 140 papers, and supervised 40 MS degree and
21 PhD degree theses students.
In the profession Dr. Trick has been elected to a number of boards
and offices, including Eta Kappa Nu
Electrical Engineering Honor Society Board of Directors
2002-2005, President of the
National Electrical Engineering Department Heads Association
1994, International Engineering
Consortium (IEC) Board of Directors 1989-2005,
Institute of Electrical and
Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Board of Directors 1986-89, IEEE
Vice-President for Publications 1988-89, President of the
IEEE Circuits and Systems Society
1979. He has also served on numerous technical committees and
editorial boards.
In 1976 he received the Guillemin-Cauer Award for best paper
published in the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems; in 1984
he was awarded the IEEE Centennial Medal; in 1987 he received the
IEEE Circuits and Systems Society Meritorious Service Award. He is
the recipient of the 1994 IEEE Circuits and Systems Society
VanValkenburg Award for outstanding technical contributions and
leadership in the field. In 1996 he received the University of
Illinois Dads Association Outstanding Faculty Award. In the year
2000 Dr. Trick was awarded the IEEE Millennium Medal for outstanding
achievement, the IEEE Circuit and System Society Golden Jubilee
Medal for extraordinary contributions to the Society, and the Alumni
Achievement Award from the School of Engineering at the University
of Dayton. In 2001 he received the Outstanding Electrical Engineer
Alumni Award from Purdue University, and in 2002 the
Semiconductor Industry
Association University Research Award, 2002.
Dr. Trick is a Fellow of the Institute
of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the
American Association for the
Advancement of Science (AAAS), and the
International Engineering Consortium
(IEC). He is a member of the Pi
Mu Epsilon, Tau Beta Pi, and
Eta Kappa Nu honor societies.
